DEEP END : Part 2 Continued

Rosie Fox Eddie Santini Santini/Fox Storyline Cast and Ratings from The Bill
Liz and DI Deakin are discussing the case. Maggie, the redhead who Bellman took off somewhere, was the witness who saw Bellman with Tracy Keller the night she died. They speculate whether he's covering his tracks or not.
"The DCI is concerned that Rosie's going to be able to handle Bellman anyway, and I'm not going to take any risks sending her in there if Bellman's already smelt a rat."
"So what do you want me to do? Stand them down?" asks Liz.
"Get Eddie and Rosie working on their characters. We'll give it a couple of hours: see if Maggie turns up."

"Nice guy!" comments Ed as Liz pauses the video. He and Rosie are making notes on the case in the briefing room.
"That's what you're up against."
"Right. So, I'm a tom!"
"Why? I mean, couldn't you just be new to the area or something?" Methinks that Ed's jealous!
"I'd make a great prostitute!"
"You're gonna show out."
"I'll show out if I'm too respectable, Ed."
"Yeah, that's what my point. If we're gonna convince anyone we've got work to do: hair, clothes, etc..."
"I've got some stuff."
"And don't think that the Cambridge look is gonna cut it on Brim Street, Rosebud."
"I wasn't going to attract Bellman's attention in my gown and mortar board!" she snaps.
"Alright keep your briefs on!"
"Can you two just stop squabbling!" Liz interrupts them. "I've seen Rosie dressed up for a night out. I don't think she'll have any problem looking the part."
"Well if she's a tom, what am I then? One of her punters?"

Rosie's not so sure. "I think he should be my ex-pimp or someone I'm trying to get away from. Otherwise it could put Bellman off."
"Good point," agrees Liz.
"Okay, so you're a tom, that means you'll be a smack addict aswell, most likely."
"No way, I'm hardly going to convince him if I'm a stupid smackhead, am I."
"You're the one with the M.A., Rosebud, you tell me!"
Liz is fed up with the argument. "Look will you just pack it in! We've got enough problems!"
"It'll be better all round if we did get stood down," mutters Ed.
Just then, DI Deakin walks in. "Everybody happy?"
"Fine!" They all force smiles. He tells them that they have Keller on tape at Heathrow, boarding a flight to Budapest ten days ago.

Jim's watching Bellman, who's stopped off at home. He fetches some luggage and drives off. There's no sign of the woman from earlier.

Bruce Jolliffe comes in to offer cups of tea to Rod and Tom.
"Sad case!" mutters Rod.
"Don't knock him, Rod. He fought for his country." Rod doesn't take him seriously though. "You're a git, Rod!"
"And I love you too, Tom. Hang on..." the redhead's turned up at the pub. She now has a fresh set of bruises.

"Do you think they're gonna be ready?"
"Well we'll have to keep it simple at first, but that could be a good thing. Allows us to fine tune later." Liz tells the DI
"What was all the aggravation about earlier on?" he asks.
"They're just wound up about the job, Guv. They'll be fine"
"Yes? 'Cause we've got one dead girl, one girl beaten up. It's a dangerous job we're sending Rosie on. The one thing we don't need is squabbles."
"I'll keep my eye out," Liz reassures him.

Eddie and Rosie come back. Chris updates them. Liz found out from Kim that Maggie Shelton, the redhead, was caught stealing from Bellman's pocket. He found out about it. Also, Jim's found out the Bellman's off to Budapest.
"This could be a really good opportunity for us," Liz explains. "If we introduce you today at the pub, we can take our time easing you before you even have to deal with Bellman...That's if you're up for it."
Both Eddie and Rosie are enthusiastic.

Dave and George are gossiping about the op in the panda car.
"You know Vicky reckons Rosie's not up to it," George says.
"Vicky just wants to be top girl, that's all." Sgt. Ackland radios all units to tell them that the op will soon be live. "That was quick: Eddie and Rosie out to play."
"Yeah, I could have done with some of that," George sighs.
"What? You and Rosie? Do us a favour."
"No, no, the job. Anyway, Eddie's not interested. He's just winding her up."
Dave chuckles. "You're wrong there, mate. He's totally smitten!"

Eddie's in civvies now, waiting for Liz and Rosie with Jim Carver and Don Beech.
"Very good, Eddie," Liz says as she walks in.
"What do you reckon, good enough?" Rosie asks. She's wearing a short skirt, deep red crop top and some sandals.
"Don't know," Eddie replies.
"Let me know when I get something right."
"You look great. Don't worry about it," Don reassures her. DI Deakin enters, and stops for a minute to get a good look at Rosie's outfit. Jim and Don try to stop laughing when Chris realises what he's doing and quickly begins the briefing. Rosie's going to go into the pub for a couple of hours and get to know the hostel girls, and they'll meet back at Kim's house at half past eight.
Eddie's still not happy with the way she's dressed.
"Bog off, Eddie. An hour ago you were telling me I'd never convince anyone! Can we just get on with it?" Rosie explodes before storming out of the room.
"You two kiss and make up," Deakin tells Ed. "There is no room for personality clashes in this!"
Ed nods.

Ed's dropping Rosie off outside the pub. They immediately draw the attention of the hostel girls so have a row in the middle of the street.
"It's over Eddie! You're not my keeper so why don't you piss off and leave me alone!"
"Will you just listen a sec!"
"I've done that for too long already!" She slams the door and grabs her bags.
"Be careful," he tells her in a low voice, and then yells at her, "Stupid bitch!"
Dave and George are driving down Brim Street just then and have front row seats to all this. George gets distracted by the length of Rosie's skirt as she walks over to the pub, and as a result nearly crashes into Eddie's car! I think the panda car would probably to a lot more damage that Rosie's bike! Liz, Rod and Tom watch the action from the Jolliffe's window, as Rosie tries to ignore everything and goes inside. Talk about an entrance!
"Rosie," Kim calls out from behind the bar, acting surprised. "What are you doing here?"
"I've finally seen the light and ditched Eddie! I need a drink."
"What'll you have?"
"A rum and coke...without the rum," she quietly adds.
"Good entrance," Kim mutters, "They noticed." The hostel girls are already gossiping about her in a corner.
"How'd you notice?"

Ed arrives fuming at the Jolliffe's.
"I think we got away with it," Tom tells Liz.
"See that berk George. He nearly broadsided me."
"Well you're alright aren't you?" she asks.
"Liz, the target's arrived!"
"He can't be. He's halfway on his way to the bloody Danube!" They watch Bellman get out of his car.
"She's not ready; she'll blow it. We'll have to get her out!"
"Don't panic," Liz tells him.
"We've only had half a briefing. She doesn't even know exactly who she's supposed to be." Liz goes to phone Deakin.

Bellman's at the bar.
"Hello, Clive," Kim greets him as he catches Rosie's attention. "Thought you left the country." Rosie comes back to the bar.
"Flight was delayed and then something else blew up this end. Anyway, had to reschedule."
"Large one?"
"Yes please, and I've earned it!" He turns around to greet the hostel girls and then spots Rosie. "Hello, who are you?" She smiles shyly.
"Clive. Rosie. Old mate. We were at school together. She's stopping at mine for a few days till she finds a place," Kim explains.
"You want to join me for a drink, Rosie?"
"I've got one thanks."
"Well I'll come over to you, then."
